Vintage 1930s - 1940s Black Straw Tilt Hat with Net /… - Gem。This is a fabulous find, preserved from the 1930s\'. It is a black grosgrain + straw tilt fedora, which is supposed to be worn tilted forward and off to one side. The crown is made of a wide band of grosgrain in a tubular shape, and is surrounded by a short straw brim. There is a thin bow at the front, and a strip of black veiling is around the crown, tied at the back, and forms 2 streamers. To hold the hat in a tilted position, there are 2 grosgrain straps held together with an ele=astic ring. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
